Self-Service ALA Membership Card & Certificate Functionality

Why has the company moved from emailing membership cards and certificates to a self-service model?

The shift to a self-service model offers several benefits, including:

·       Instant Access: Members can download their documents anytime without waiting for an email.

·       Greater Control: Members can update their details and regenerate documents as needed.

·       Improved Security: Reduces the risk of lost or misdelivered emails containing sensitive information.

·       Operational Efficiency: Automating the process saves time and resources, allowing the organization to focus on enhancing member services.

·       Eco-Friendly Approach: Reducing email attachments and printing minimizes environmental impact.

 

How do I access my membership card and certificate?

You can access your membership card and certificate by logging onto the my.ALA.org membership portal. Navigate to the "My Account" section.

1.     Select the new Membership Card tab, next to My Preferences.

2.     Enter a member ID and click on "Refresh" to run the Member ID card report.

3.     To save the report; click on the Adobe Acrobat PDF icon which will download the report pdf to your computer.

4.      Saving the PDF will add the digital signatures to the document and correct any formatting issues in the preview.


Can I update my membership details before downloading the card or certificate?

Yes, you can update your details such your name by going to the "Profile" section in the portal. Any changes you make to your membership (memberships or subscriptions) will be reflected in your certificate once you regenerate them.

 

What should I do if I can't download or view my membership card or certificate?

If you experience issues downloading or viewing your documents, try the following:

·        Ensure your internet connection is stable.

·        Clear your browser cache and refresh the page.

·        Try using a different browser or device.

·     If the issue persists, contact our Membership Services team for assistance. Email membership@ala.org or call 1-800-545-2433 (option 1).

 

Is my digital membership card valid for verification?

Yes, your digital membership card is a valid proof of membership. You can present it electronically or print a copy if required. Some organizations may require additional verification, so check with the relevant entity.

 

Can I request a physical membership card or certificate?

Currently, we provide digital versions for immediate access and convenience. However, if you need a physical copy, once you download your membership card and certificate, check your personal computer for available printing options.
